Dictation
Talk, and it types where your cursor is. One hotkey puts dictation in every app on your Mac, Windows PC, or iPhone.
How it's different
Most speech-to-text writes down what you say word for word. Fine for a quick note, but you end up cleaning it before you can send it anywhere.
Superwhisper watches what app you're in and adjusts. In your email client it formats like a message, and when you're prompting Cursor it keeps things technical. Slack comes out more casual. You don't set any of that up. It reads the screen and matches.
If you just want plain transcription with nothing stored, try voice to text online in your browser first.
How it works
Hit a global shortcut or hold push-to-talk from any app. Speak the way you'd speak to a person, no saying "comma" or "new line" out loud. When you stop, the text lands at your cursor, already punctuated and formatted for where you are.
Speech runs around 150 words a minute. Typing sits near 40 for most people. Curious about your own gap? The words per minute test shows it in under a minute.
Who uses it
Developers talk to AI coding tools with it. Andrej Karpathy coined "vibe coding" while using Superwhisper with Cursor, and Pieter Levels works the same way. Guillermo Rauch, the CEO of Vercel, called it "insanely fast and does just what you expect."
Writers use it to get first drafts down. People with RSI lean on it because talking all day is easier than typing all day. And if you work across languages, you can dictate in one and have it translated into another.
Comparison
Apple and Windows both ship dictation, and for a fast note they're fine. Neither understands context or reformats what you said, and the language coverage is thinner. Here's how the three line up.

Private by default
Superwhisper runs speech models on-device, so audio never has to touch a server and you don't need a connection. That's what makes it work on a plane or behind a strict firewall.
It's also why it holds up for regulated work. Superwhisper is SOC 2 Type II certified and HIPAA compliant, and the free tier doesn't expire if you want to test it for a while first.
Talk to text in your browser
Speak a sentence and get clean text back, nothing to install.
By the time you finish typing this sentence, you could have said it three times over.
Typing speed test
Measure your WPM, then see how much faster talking is.
